Anxious Patients and Sedation Our services

Lots of patients fear Oral Surgery/dentistry. Most dental anxiety is caused by previous bad experiences, especially inadequate pain control.
Apart from being a relaxant and sedative, the sedation agents also have a powerful amnesic effect, so patients have no memory of their treatment.

It is an extremely safe method of treating anxious patients.Sedation is particularly helpful for patients who dislike needles or have a strong gag reflex, as it relaxes the body and makes the

the introduction of local anaesthetic painless. You are not fully unconscious, but you won't remember
anything either. It is an accepted way of doing oral surgery and has been for decades.

  • IV sedation tends to be the method of choice if you don't want to be aware of the procedure
    - you "don't want to know".
  • The onset of action is very rapid, and drug dosage and level of sedation can be tailored to meet the individual's needs. IV sedation is highly effective and highly reliable.
  • Iv Sedation produces amnesia for the procedure.
  • The gag reflex is hugely diminished - people receiving IV sedation rarely experience difficulty with gagging.
  • Can be ideal for those with a phobia of dental injections.

ALL PATIENTS MUST BRING A RESPONSIBLE ADULT (ESCORT) AND MUST BE ACCOMPANIED HOME BY THE ESCORT and supervised by a responsible adult, over the age of 18, for the remainder of the day of surgery. Please continue to take routine medicine unless the surgeon advises otherwise and bring them with you. Have light meals only on the day of treatment and do not eat for four hours before your appointment. Please DO NOT wear make up. Remove nail varnish before your appointment. DO NOT drink any form of alcohol on the day of treatment, before and after.

Recovery from IV Sedation is quick but you will not be fully/ completely recovered at the end of procedure. You will be kept for some time in Recovery. You will be escorted by a responsible adult. Written Instruction will be given at the time of discharge.
